9. The Building the Foundation element of the programme holds the
principle that there is MUCH we should be doing to support children in
doing well BEFORE things go wrong. This includes ensuring
relationships are supportive, positive and strong; teaching children
about the brain so they understand how it is built, shaped and the skills
we can develop to do well in learning and play. It also includes teaching
children about their needs and how to plan to meet them in helpful ways
so they get their ‘Daily Dose’. It goes on to give a structure for children to
think through other people’s needs and agree expectations together.
Building Foundations also includes helping children learn how to
‘Prep4Best’ – to prepare for their own needs to be met well and those
around them to be met well too - in ways that are ‘Good for me, good for
you, good for everyone’.
10. On a day-to-day basis, the programme aims for all children to feel safe,
happy / content and able to learn.
