The Twelve Brothers

Long ago

there was a

King and a

Queen who

had twelve

sons.

One day the King told the Queen, "If

our thirteenth child is a girl, I shall kill all

of our sons so that my only daughter can

inherit my entire wealth and kingdom."

The Queen was terrified, but did not

say a word. One night, the Queen's

youngest son, Benjamin, came and asked

his mother why she was so sad. The Queen

told him their father's decision and then she

made them all run away into the wild

woods.
