Saltwater ecosystems

Oceans, seas and some lakes.

Oceans are the largest saltwater ecosystems. They include:
Shallow areas & Deep areas

Shallow areas
contain coral reefs &

intertidal zones.

Intertidal zone is along the coast

disappears underwater at the high
tide and appears at the low tide.

Deep areas are

abyssal zones

so sunlight can’t
reach them.

All oceans are connected.
Oceans and seas environments have many smaller ecosystems.

The ocean’s floor has mountains, plains and plateaus.
Ocean water circulates around the world in patterns called ocean currents.
