The estimatedcost is $200,000 and our share of $75,000 could reduce it to $125,000.The delivery of medical care is, as you know, a challenge commanding the attention of individuals at all levels of our community. We are writing to ask that you join with others who are helping Long Island College Hospital meet that challenge. Please help the Guild to do an outstanding job again this year by supporting the Ball and the Journal, which in itself has become a major source of income for the Hospital.Sincerely yours,Mrs. Nicholas J. The flowering season has already begun with a favorite in .the frost, the Chinese Witch Hazel (Hamemelis mollis). The yellow ribbon-like blooms last for several weeks throughout the winter. Located along the brook in the center of the garden, the Chinese Witch Hazel is groupedwith botanically related species. Other members of the Witch Hazel family include the Common Witch Hazel, which bloomed in October, and the Japanese Witch Hazel, whose buds are swelling and ready to bloom very shortly. The grounds are open every day from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Davidson.Stating that Davidson%u2019s predecessor, Com m issioner Halper, had been most uncooperative, with members of his staff %u201c threatening and attempting bribes and deals,%u201d the Carroll Park mothers contrast Davidson%u2019s availability in his previous post as First Deputy Administrator to the Park%u2019s Commissioner. The mothers, who began their activity in behalf of the free center last fall, had charged the department with %u201c keeping the building used by the four-year-old children in a constant state of disrepair.%u201d After repeated complaints about lack of heat, light and supplies, plus constant vandalism, they gathered in protest in front of the Central Park Arsenal with mothers from other park centers and wound up in a chase after Commissioner August Heckscher from the zoo to the parking lot. After that demonstration, the first such activity for most of the mothers, certain repairs were made. However, the bulk of the work was220Atlantic Ave.In a boost to the industrial and business firms struggling to make recycled goods more competitive on the market-place, State Senator Carol Bellamy has introduced legislation in Albany that would require state agencies to include them in their bidding procedures.%u201c If we agree that it is in the public interest to encourage the use of recycled goods and products in order to help solve our environmental problems, then we must use the buying power of government agencies as a wedge to build a competitive market for them,%u201d Senator Bellamy said. Her bill, No. 2772, titled %u201c An Act to Amend the Executive Law in Relation to the Purchase of Recycled or Non-wastefulProducts by the State,%u201d would require the State Commissioner of General Services, who acts as %u201c purchasing agent%u201d for state agencies, to include descriptions of recycled goods and items in all specifications and bids made by his office when it is determined that such items would be adequate to fulfill the purpose for which the purchase is being made.In her message to fellow legislators upon introduction of the bill, Senator Bellamy said, %u201c By purchasing recycled items, the State would create a new market for these items which might otherwise be discarded into dumping areas and, with increased demand, it can be anticipated that the current cost of such items will be reduced.%u201dALBANY REPORTContinued from Page 15treats drug offenders as individuals with rights and not as a class of irredeemable fiends. I oppose the Governor%u2019s legislation; I do urge stricter enforcement of existing laws (under which a drug pusher can receive a life sentence), and I call on the Governor to use the funds he says are available for throwing people into prison to staff and fund drug treatment centers adequately, and to train and create jobs for rehabilitated drug addicts. NO-FAULT AUTO INSURANCE: I voted with the minority against the no-fault bill even though I support the principle of a no-fault insurance system whereby personal injury cases resulting from automobile accidents can be settled without court action. I believe that the present tort system is terrible, but that in crucial ways the no-fault bill passed this month is not much better.completed later, the mothers say, after bringing the situation directly to the attention of Davidson. The mothers who have been aided in their efforts by State Senator Carol Bellamy, State Assemblyman, Mike Pesce, as well as by Buddy Scotto and Peter Drago of Carroll Gardens, are intent on continuing their activity, with current emphasis on the still unresolved problems of obtaining supplies and regulating hours of teacher%u2019s assistants. A tour meeting has been arranged for Thursday, March 8, at 10 a.m. at the Cadman War Memorial in Cadman Plaza Park. At that time a watchdog committee on productivity and spending wi(l be formed, as well as an Ad Hoc Committee on the restoration of Neighborhood Recreation.Feeling that %u201c the people of the city have been short changed too long,%u201d the mothers, who are ineligible for city-sponsored day care and unable to afford private nurseries for their children, want to preserve these free facilities which in some cases have been around for 60 years and to increase the possibilities therein.Del Pilarmaker of handmade classical guitarsUL 8 - 6 5 6 4$$w$$$$$$$$i$$$I Income Tax* FRFF lS.MIMIJTE$ C O N F E R E N C E %u2019I To discuss tax services, ideas, $ review a tax return, answer j questions. (This little catch in the bill explains why it received enthusiastic support from insurance companies which will benefit from the $200 deductible plan. The savings which result from no-fault will probably wind up with the insurance companies and not in the form of credit or refunds to the consumer).Second, the $500 threshold on nofault, (after $500 worth of injuries you can sue), is too low and it effectively discriminates against the poor who will not be able to go to private doctors who can up the cost of injuries above the $500 limit. Third, the legislation contains no provision for benefits to be paid for loss of future and anticipated earnings. And fourth, it does not apply to out-of-state accidents. With amendments I surely would have supported no-fault legislation but I could not in good conscience vote for the bill as it was passed.Berkeley ExpandsThe Berkeley Institute has announced that it plans to expand its present facilities at 181 Lincoln PI. to include a new student lounge and additional classroom space.
