Page Sixteen, PHOENIXYWCA to SendDelegates to MeetingThree thousand YWCA members %u2014 young and older and representative of all major ethnicm o o fMarch 26-31. in San Diego for the 26th National Convention of the YWCA of the U.S.A.Attending from the Brooklyn Y.W.C.A. will be Doris Miller and Thelma Black, both members of the Board of Directors, Teen members Ann Sherrill and Mary Ann McLaurin, and Charlotte Spangler and Thelma King, Brooklyn YW staff.The triennial meeting of the YWCA will focus on a program for action for the next three-year period dealing particularly withthe role of the YWCA as a women%u2019s movement that is concerned with the elimination of racism. Empowerment of women, youth and Third World people will be considered as Association targetsalong with concerns in the areas ofenvironment, economic and socialjustice, and world relations.The Convention falling approximately one month ahead of iNationai YWCA Week i April 22-26) carries a comparable theme, the %u201cEmpowerment of Women for Action.%u201d%u201c In our community, we see the Convention providing new directions in working with women and girls toward building peace and justice, freedom and dignity for all people.%u201d Ms. Charlotte B. A scarcity, ofS crutches has hit northern%u00ab hospitals and it has reached| crisis proportions over the lastj | few months.S Crutch dealers throughoutthe area have been frustrated:%u00a3 by the fact that they have notS been able to obtain the desiredS items. %u201cThe wood,%u201d MethodistS says, %u201cis just not available.%u201d|: In an attempt to cope with%u00ab the shortage Methodist hasg: issued an appeal to allg Brooklynites, who may haveused crutches stashed away intheir basements or closets, toconsider selling them to thehospital at %u201cthree dollars foreach pair returned in goodcondition.%u201dThis crisis has forced thePark Slope institution to go allthe way to Texas, bytelephone, to find amanufacturer that could sell it20 dozen pairs of crutches,explained Morton Swickle,Director of Purchasing.Another four dozen pairs wereobtained through the HospitalBureau of VoluntaryHospitals. %u201cThis has eased thecrisis for now,%u201d elated Mr.Swickle.
