Hydrant shower caps, which permit youngsters to %u2018beat the heat%u2019 but at the same time conserve water, are available at all local police precincts, noted the Senator. Use of the shower caps is legal, she warned, while the indiscriminate and unauthorized opening of fire hydrants is not.Senator Bellamy noted that the pouring of millions of gallons of water into the streets each day not only wastes a precious naturalresource, but also creates a serious fire and health hazard by creatingn ro n in itn iic H rnn in B in o itv %u2019s w a te rpressure.She listed the following police guidelines: 1. Do not turn on fire hydrants without proper authorization. 2. Discourage others from opening hydrants illegally. 3. Report any open hydrants to your local police precinct either in person or by phone. 4. Apply for a hydrant spray can at vour local police precinct.
