On Feb. 19, Police Officer John Romano made an arrest on the Grand Larceny Auto count at Kane St. between Columbia and Van Brunt, and on Feb. 23. Police Officer Joseph Meka made an arrest on that charge at Baltic and Smith Sts. On Feb. 24 Police Officer Joseph Valentino arrested three men on the triple charge of Grand Larceny Auto, burglary, (which was committed in the 70th precinct) and criminal possession of stolen property. One of the men was also arrested on a narcotics charge. The arrests took place at 7 p.m. on Hamilton Ave. and Columbia St.Other apprehensions during the week included the arrest of two for possession of narcotics at Bergen and Smith St. on Feb. 19 by Officers Douglas Lithglow and Jorge Castro, and the arrest of two for robbery and threatening with a knife on Feb. 23 at Nevins and Bond Sts. by Police Officer Victor Charkowick.Other news related to the 76th precinct involves the call by Assemblyman Michael Pesce for the establishment of a mini-station within the Red Hook Houses.With the Red Hook Project (the oldest housing project in the city) set off from the rest of the precinct by %u201c natural boundaries.\people feel isolated and removed from %u201c adequate police protection,%u2019 Pesce advises, adding that mam storekeepers are discussing moving out ot the area because of continuing robberies.manager of the store, were wounded by an unknown male who entered the store and demanded, at gur point, that the clerk %u201c put all the good jewelry in the sack%u201d which he carried. When the clerk refused the assailant opened fire and ran from the shop.Later that afternoon, Police Officers Thomas Martino, Peter Mormile and Anthony Lombardo of the 84th Anti-Crime Squad were cruising along the fringes of the precinct under the BrooklynQueens Expressway in search of the suspect in the Weiss case when they were hailed by a cab driver who had just been robbed. The three officers went after two men who fled when they realized they were being pursued. One turned and fired and the officers returned the fire. Eventually the suspect without the gun was apprehended.On Feb. 22 at 12:55 a.m., P. 0. Luis Cid and P.O. Joseph O%u2019Connor were on patrol near Court and Livingston Sts. and observed a car with a wanted license plate. It was occupied by three males. The officers radioed for back-up units and when they arrived all the policemen approached the car with drawn guns. The suspects were apprehended without a shot being fired.The suspects were found to be in possession of two sawed-off shot guns, and a 38-caliber revolver.
