(BACA)lllllllllllllllllllilliiiiiiiiilllililllllliliiiiiiiii\IIIIIIIIIIIIIIUIIIIIi:illEllttiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!iiii%u00ab:Foss to Play,ConductThe Brooklyn Philharmonia will present the third concert of the Orchestra%u2019s 1973-74 Major Subscription Series, on Sunday afternoon, March 10, at 3 pm, in the Music Hall of the Brooklyn Academy of Music, featuring Lukas Foss, orchestra music advisor and conductor at the piano. The many faceted composer-pianist will be featured that afternoon as the piano soloist in the bach %u201c F Minor Concerto%u201d , %u201c Hindemith%u2019s %u201c The Four Temperaments%u201d as well as Bach's Cantata 146, %u201cWir mussen durch viel Trubsal%u201d , at the same time conducting the orchestra in all three works from the piano. The featured soloists for the Bach Cantata are: Lois Bove, soprano; Sofia Steffan, mezzo-soprano; Jonathan Rigg, tenor; Alan Baker, baritone and the Brooklyn Philharmonia Choral Society, David Aurelius, conductor. The Bach %u201c F Minor Concerto%u201d is the shorter of Bach%u2019s two keyboard works with orchestra, well known for its liltingly lyrical and beautiful slow movement. A historical note of importance on the Hindemith: It was Lukas Foss, who first premiered the work %u201c Die vier Temperamente%u201d as piano-soloist under the baton of Paul Hindemith and subsequently recorded the work, conducting it from the piano. The final work of the afternoon will be the rarely performed Bach Cantata 146, %u201c W ir mussen durch viel Trubsal%u201d with the abovementioned soloists and chorus. As Bach often transcribed his own compositions from one instrument to the other, Lukas Foss has chosen the piano rather than the organ for this performance since the piano has become a legitimate instrument for Bach%u2019s keyboard w riting nowadays. Once again he will conduct the orchestra, soloists and chorus from the piano.Ticket prices for the performance for reserved seats: $3.50, $4.50, $5.50 and $6.50. Student Rush Tickets: $2.50 shortly before the concert at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) Box Office: 30 Lafayette Ave,, or call 636- 4100.IIIlllllllllllllilHIIIIIIIIlIimillllllllllHHlIIIIIIl^iiiiiiiiiiiiiii!iiiiiii3iiiiiiiiiimiHHHmiiiig(iinif%u2019Don9! miss a single Issue...
