Plansto The Editor:I was pleased to see that you had written an article on m informative presentation to the Sixth Street Block Association regarding Methodist Hospital%u2019s modernization program. Public information is a good principle. However, I noticed several incorrect statements and ideas in your article. I would like you to be accurately informed and therefore I shall attempt to clear up any misinterpretation that you may have. Although our modernization program can logically be broken into two stages, it remains to be seen whether we .will implement construction in one or two stages. In either case, what can be considered the first stage is the building containing the ambulatory care facilities, underground parking garage and staff housing. This is at the western end of the block near Seventh Avenue as opposed to the eastern end of. the block near Eighth Avenue, which you state in yourarticle. The Nurses%u2019 Residence Building will be replaced by a new Acute Care Building, which will house %u201creplacement beds%u201d for those which are today obsolete and do not meet specific Health Department Codes. The style and facade and other exterior characteristics of both buildings is still literally in the planning stage. And therefore, I could not ascribe any design to it, whereas you mention that the structure will be the same as Wesley House.I hope the above clears up any misunderstanding which you may have. As I stated at the Sixth Street Block Association meeting, my door is open and you are welcome to meet with me at any time regarding our modernization program. Thank you.Sincerely, James B. I do not think that it is in this case.Would you accept similar ads specifying men? Would you accept the following ad: ACCOUNTANT to prepare tax returns. $30.00-Hr. men only, call 555-1234???I would appreciate your comments in this matter.Eugene Falik 1034 Dickens St.Dear Mr. Falik:Yes, we would accept similar advertisements specifing men. Federal law prohibits advertising to hire someone by sex, and as you see from our help wanted column, we do not segregate help wanted ads by sex. However, craftspersons are free in this paper, and in any other I know of to put anything they wish into an advertisement, so long as it is in good taste and truthful. The ads we have appear to qualify. EditorCobble Hill Group Scores LICH on Staff ParkingThe following is the text of a letter from the Women%u2019s Association for a Clean Cobble Hill to Mr. John Wingate of Long Island College Hospital:Dear Mr. Wingate: whateverhappened to peaceful coexistence? In the five years that Women%u2019s Association for a Clean Cobble Hill has been in existence (with a membership of over five hundred) our meetings have resulted in complete frustration.Women%u2019s Association for a Clean Cobble Hill was formed to solve the basic sanitation problems of Cobble Hill. Since then we have brought about a six day a week pick-up,organized block clean-ups, and helped promote a bulk pick-up ori a weekly basis, and in general acted as an eyes on the street adjunct to our Sanitation Department. It immediately became clear to us that while we naa regular street sweeping-right up the middle of the street-our curbs were filled with parked cars, sometimes double and triple parked. Our curbs remained filthy. With the cooperation of the Police and Sanitation Departments we decided to have a Clean Sweep Day. The Police posted No Parking Signs on Amity Street betweenHenry and Clinton Streets. We notified the residents of the block, who were most cooperative in removing their cars. The following morning Women%u2019s Association for a Clean Cobble Hill, Police Department and Sanitation Department were ready to proceed. One problem, our curbs were filled as usual with parked cars, despite the Special No Parking Signs. Investigation revealed that these cars belonged to employees of L.I.C.H. as well as its professional staff. We then turned to L.I.C.H and asked them to educate their staff as to parking regulations in the surrounding area. We also asked them to consider running a shuttle service to the new Municipal Parking Garage on Court Street and Atlantic Avenue, three blocks away. They were most cooperative and announced the facility and asked both their Dersonnel and visitors to use this garage. Our streets remain filled with cars, so obviously the garage is not being used by the L.I.C.H.Next L.I.C.H announced than an Extended Care Facility was to be built at Atlantic Avenue and Hicks Street. Community groups were invited by L.I.C.H. to see andW hy a re n %u2019t these courtsmaintained? Brooklyn Heights and South Brooklyn residents are traveling to Flatbush, Bay Ridge and Manhattan to playtennis, while these courts in Cobble Hill (at the corner of Columbia and Congress Streets) remain netiess.%u2014 J.B.Another potential site fortennis courts. The Downtown Brooklyn Tennis Courts Association has requested the Parks Department to consider Cadman Plaza Park as a site for new community tennis courts. The Association also suggested Squibb Park as an alternative. Here is a third possibility that has not heretofore been nominated, and one that might circumvent objections raised about the first two sites. This lot is bounded by Adams and Tillary Streets adjacent to the approach to the Brooklyn Bridge.%u2014 J.B.Do You Know A b o u t a ParksProblem w e M ig h t H elp Solve?i%u25a0iiiIi .Location_________Nature of ProblemYour Name___________________________________Your Phone_________________________________ _Mail To The PHOENIX, 155 Atlantic Avenuei m n %u00bb f l R n m m 9 8 i s e i f f l S K R i f f i r a e r a i i i 9 i i H
