The buildings were sold to these defaulting owners, usually in 1968 or 1969, by unscrupulous real estate dealers who %u201cdoctored%u201d credit reports and bribed government inspectors and appraisers in order to turn a quick profit. The illeducated families who purA 100-hour course in Nursing Home Administration and a 46- hour course in Public Relations for Nursing Home Administrators are being offered on a credit and noni credit basis this spring at The Brooklyn Center of Long Island University.The 100-hour course, designed to meet the training requirements for the New York State licensure examination in this health field, is open to students who possess an undergraduate degree and have completed a field training program approved by the New York Department of Health%u2019s Board of Examiners of Nursing Homechased the buildings, at inflated prices, generally did not have an income sufficient to maintain the buildings and therefore abandoned them as soon as the bills became overwhelming.In order to avoid this kind of problem with the rehabilitated buildings, SPRC orders through credit checks on all applicants and conducts a counselling program which provides instruction on budgeting, home repairs and related subjects. Each buildingClasses will meet twice a week%u2014 Tuesdays and Thursdays%u2014from 6:10 to 8:45 P.M., beginning on Thursday, January 31.The 45-hour course for licensed administrators will focus on the professional public relations program in health care facilities, which is experiencing rapid growth. The course hopes to answer such questions as: What is public relations? What can a public relations director do for a nursing home facility? What kind of man or woman does the nursing home need to do this job? and What will the nursing home have to pay to engage a qualified individual?which SPRC rehabilitates receives at a minimum totally new and modern heating, plumbing, and electrical systems, new kitchens including ranges and new bathrooms with all new modern appliances.SPRC, Inc. (pronounced %u201cSpark%u201d ), successor to the Sunset Park Redevelopment Committee, and the Sunset Bay Housing Corporation are not-for-profit, tax exempt corporations with boards of directors representing most of the major civic improvement groups in the Sunset Park area. In addition to the abandoned housing rehabilitation program, both groups are working on the redevelopment of the area around the site of the proposed new Lutheran Medical Center, and a campaign to have Sunset Park designated a Neighborhood Preservation area by the City Planning Commission.Eight formerly abandoned buildings rehabilitated and repopulated and nine more in the rehabilitation pipeline; over $400,000 worth of housing, that%u2019s the score for SPRC, Inc. at the end of its first year of rehabilitation activity in Sunset Park.%u201c1973 was a crisis year for nonprofit housing corporationsbecause of President Nixon%u2019s revocation of vital housing programs and because of the nationwide shortage of mortgage money,%u201d according to Gene Murphy Executive Director of SPRC, Inc. %u201cDespite these obstacles which drove many other corporations out of business, SPRC not only survived but scored a tremendous success.In a year end statement in whichhe was joined by corporation officers Rev.
