Two of the men who injured themselves in the course of the attempted escape were apprehended immediately. A third, Steven Fraser, charged with kidnapping and rape, was apprehended by Detective Alfred Albertis when Fraser went to the emergency room at CumberlandHospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the escape. The fourth man, George Harper, is still at large. The following day, May 4, at 4:30 p.m., a woman walking in Walt Whitman Park, bounded by Washington, Tillary and Adams Streets, was set upon by Rodney Johnson, who pushed her to the ground and dragged her for several feet in an attempt to take her purse. Officer John Caruso made the catch. And on May 1, on Huntington Street between Columbia and Hicks, Detective Albert Santora of the 76th Precinct Investigations Unit arrested three juveniles for burglary.Armed RobberyAttemptedOn May 6, it was highway robbery in Brooklyn Heights-on State Street, between Willow Place and Hicks Street. A truck belonging to Piedmont Provisions, Third Avenue, Brooklyn, was going up the street when a man in his mid-20%u2019s hopped into the cab and tried to shake down the driver, who witnesses say was in his 60%u2019s. The driver wrestled with the man, wrenching a loaded 38-calibre snub-nose revolver from his hand as both fell out of the cab into the street. At this point the driverless truck rolled backwards down the slightly hilly stretch of State Street, hittinga late model station wagon parked on the north side of the street. The gunless highway robber, dressed in a blue jacket, ran up State Street toward Hicks, minus not only his gun but one of his shoes as well. The truck driver fired two shots in the robber%u2019s direction, but policemen from the 84th Precinct say he missed his target.Meanwhile, Frank Livia of 159 President Street, Carroll Gardens, returned to find the right fender of his car buried under the Piedmont truck tailgate. %u201cI%u2019m insured, and normally I wouldn%u2019t care, but I just bought that car two days ago,%u201d he said, shaking his head.O'Dwyer AtCivic CouncilThe New York City Council President, Hon.
