OpeningMid-October is the new time goal for the reopening of the Third St. Bridge over the Gowanus Canal says Councilmember Stephen DiBrienza, who has just received a letter from the Ardslev Construction Colne., engineers for the project. DiBrienza said, %u201cI am very pleased to hear that the long-overdue work on this bridge will be completed soon and that the bridge will once again be restored to the community.%u201dDuring the City budget negotiations, DiBrienza convinced Ross Sandler, Commissioner of The Department of Transportation, to include an additional $500,000 for the contractor to complete the work on the bridgewhich had begun almost four years ago. At that time, DiBrienza says he made a commitment to the community to closely monitor the work on the bridge until its completion and has staved in touch with the project.Ardsley Construction told DiBrienza they expect to have the bridge painted and ready for opening to traffic one week after electrical work and equipment checks have been completed. %u201cThe community has been inconvenienced for too long, and I will make every effort to remove any obstacles that further delay the opening of the bridge,%u201d says the South Brooklyn Councilmember.Homeless Solutions Discussed In ROSAS ForumThe Revitalization of the Southern Area of the Slope (ROSAS) Local Development Corporation will sponsor a forum on alternative solutions to the growing problem of homeless New Yorkers Oct. 14, at the Methodist Hospital Auditorium in Park Slope, starting at 8pm.Scheduled speakers include South Brooklyn Rep. Chuck Schumer (10th District), Slope/Bay Ridge State Senator Chris Mega (23rd S.D.), SlopeAssemblymember Jim Brennan (51st A.D.), South Brooklyn/Slope City Councilmember Stephen DiBrienza (30th Council District) and 51st Assembly Democratic District Leaders Louise Finney and Richard Guay.
