Hennessey, New York City Commissioner of Ports and Terminals Susan Heilbron, and Port Authority Director Peter C. Goldmark, Jr., before a number of elected officials including Borough President Howard Golden and City Council Majority Leader Thomas Cuite, State Senator Martin Connor, Councilmember Abe Gerges and Assemblyman Michael Pesce. The Red Hook Terminal will be built in two phases on a site which includes Piers 10 and 11 of the Brooklyn Port Authority Marine Terminal. A 10 acre tract of land at the foot of Hamilton Avenue is expected to be acquired and cleared by the city. The Port Authority will provide the initial 30 acres surrounding the Piers and construct and operate the new Red Hook Terminal. The contract was awarded to Underpinning and Foundation Constructors, Inc. of Maspet, N.Y., and it has been estimated that the development will create immediate construction jobs and eventually a $13 million payroll for 300 employees and another 900 workers indirectly connected with the operation. The expected completion date is the late fall of 1980.%u2014J.L.Print Anti-Slavery FilesThe Long Island Historical Society has made an agreement with the Microfilm Corporation of American to publish 1,200 anti-slavery publications as part of a collection which they say will be the %u201c definitve%u201d collection on slavery in America.
