The free performance will explore daily colonial life through love ballads, humorous ditties, dance tunes and political broadsides. Instruments such as the guitar, dulcimers, mandolin, fiddle, limberjack, pennywhistle, and cello will be used. The Museum is the city%u2019s oldest buiding, and its first designated landmark. Audience members should bring a blanket to sit on. The museum is at 5816 Clarendon Rd.GALLERY AUDITIONS: The Gallery Players of Park Slope will hold auditions Sept. 2 and 3 for the opening production of their 1986-87 season, %u201cThe Hostage,%u201d a black comedy by Brendan Behan. Try-outs are 6:30-9:30pm at the Berkeley Carroll Street School, 181 Lincoln Place. Brian Curtis will direct the play, slated to open October 17. Actors and actresses will read from the script and should have a song prepared; Irish accents are required for most roles, but the title role must have a Cockney accent. There is also a part for an older actor who plays bagpipes. For information, call 7684514.SHAKESPEARE DUO: %u201cAs You Like It%u201d and %u201cRomeo and Juliet%u201d will both be performed twice in free performances being presented by Celebrate Brooklyn and Joseph Papp. Performed by a special company of the New York Shakespeare Festival Players, the shows will be held at the Prospect Park Bandshell, Prospect Park West and 9th St. from August 28-31. Starting the 28th with %u201cAs You Like It,%u201d the program continues with %u201cRomeo and Juliet%u201d on the 29th, and then repeats in the same order on the 30th and 31st. All shows begin at 8pm. For more information call 768-0699.MUSICIAN%u2019S SCHOLARSHIPS: The Brooklyn Conservatory of Music will be holding auditions for its Work-Scholarship Program on September 11 and 12. The Conservatory will be offering free music study at the school in exchange for two hours each week for work as a tutor for younger students or several other positions.Students, preferably 13-19 years old, ranging in musical experience from beginner to advanced, and in both the jazz and classical departments, are eligible for these scholarships if they show a need for financial aid and demonstrate serious commitment to the study of music. The Conservatory is at 58 Seventh Ave., and for applications and information call 622-3300.HUNGER BREAD: The Bread and Puppet Theater will perform the New York City premiere of a new work %u201cThe Hunger of the Hungry and the Hunger of the Overfed Cantata,%u201d at Sideshows by the Seashore on September 6 and 7. The Theater will also give impromptu performances throughout the afternoons. The work uses Frances Moore Lappe%u2019s research, in particular heraddress tc the National Conference of Catholic Bishops in 1984. For information, call 372-5159.COLE JOINS CAL: After completing a three year term as Executive Director of the Great Artists Series at the Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College, Robert Cole has just accepted an appointment to the position of Director of Cal Performances, U.C. Berkeley%u2019s professional performing arts presenting organization. Cole has a long musical history both in New York and California, and assumes his new post in September.MEMORY THEATRE ART: The unique theatrical presentation created for the Brooklyn Bridge Anchorage, %u201cThe Memory Theater of Giulio Camillo,%u201d will be back for 24 performances in the space, starting Sept. 9, continuing through Oct. 5. An exhibition of installations created to complement the performances will also be presented, opening with a Sept. 8, 7pm reception for the artists, Elizabeth Diller, Ricardo Scofidio, Joe Fyfe, Laurie Hawkinson, Kristin Jones, Andrew Ginzel, Kit-Yin Snyder, Allan Wexler and Elyn Zimmerman. The Anchorage is at Cadman Plaza West and Front Street. Performances are $10-$15 at 7:30pm. The exhibit will be open free on Saturdays and Sundays, starting Sept. 13.
