It will include community experiences like the school newspaper, chorus, and book award committee (a group which selects the best juvenile book published each year.)%u201cBeing a member of a group is important,%u201d says parent Ann Johnson. %u201cClassrooms need to teach kids to work together, and not just to compete.%u201d The project hour will introduce significant tasks that can be accomplished together and go beyond the regular classroom arena, bringing together inter-aged groups of fifth through eighth graders.Teacher ideas, always a source of creativity, will be featured in this fall%u2019s planning. Mini-courses in writing skills will be designed by teachers, to focus on the various forms that writing can take.
