DAYS 1 & 2

XXXXXX
After a very early start to Saturday June 29th (day one of school holidays), a group of 12
secondary students headed off on the STEM Enrichment Trip. Their first stop was Tronox
at Broken Hill - a processing plant that extracts titanium compounds from mineral sands.
After an interesting tour of the facility, they continued on to Cobar to settle into their first
night’s accommdation.
On Day Two, the group headed to the CSA Copper Mine at Cobar. At 1.9 kilometres deep,
it is Australia’s 2nd deepest copper mine! Our students heard from an amazing range
of STEM professionals, including environmental scientists, metallurgists, mechanical
engineers and more, who shared about their work and career pathways. They then
travelled to the Taronga Western Plains Zoo at Dubbo for a ‘ZooSnooz’. Our students went
on a night walk, where they learned about some of our native animals and their ecology,
before enjoying some time around the campfire with marshmallows.

DAY 3Our students woke up on Day Three to the sounds of the zoo. After a guided early
morning walk to see the lemurs, hippos, bongos and more, they headed to the RFDS
Visitor Centre in Dubbo to learn about the service and related STEM careers. After a quick
visit to Bathurst’s Mount Panorama, they headed to their accommodation in Sydney.
