Academy.
Year 9
3-Day STEM Enrichment Academy
Day 1
Day 2
After an early departure on the Tuesday morning, they arrived on campus
to hear the opening speaker passionately share about her career in nuclear
physics. They were then led through a
range of hands-on workshops, which
allowed the students to explore facial
recognition technology, build jewellery
with electroplating, and experiment
with biodegradable alternatives to
plastic food packaging. They then
settled into their accommodation and
enjoyed some dinner and dessert at
Glenelg, excitedly awaiting Day Two of
the conference.
To kick off Day Two, our students listened to several inspiring women speak
about their careers in STEM. The students then participated in workshops that
saw them formulate custom soaps, explore new ways of recycling materials, and
use lasers to measure the thickness of their hair! After a busy day, they then engaged in
some retail therapy to wind down and recharge ahead of the conference’s final day.
Day 3
For the final day of the Flinders University STEM Enrichment Academy, our
students travelled to the Tonsley campus. There, they toured the precinct and
learned about some of the innovative STEM businesses based at the site. They
then enjoyed brunch with other STEM students and academics.
The day concluded with a hands-on workshop that expanded their understanding of cyber
security. The academy was a great experience for our students. We thank those at Flinders
University for hosting such a valuable event, and everyone that made it possible for our
students to attend.
