2.10.1. Introduction to Cancer

Cancer is a complex and multifaceted disease that affects millions of
people worldwide. It is characterized by the uncontrolled growth and

spread of abnormal cells in the body. These cells can form tumors or
invade nearby tissues and organs, disrupting their normal functions.

Cancer can arise in any part of the body and has the potential to
affect various organs and systems. It can be classified into different
types based on the cells of origin, such as breast cancer, lung
cancer, prostate cancer, or leukemia. Each type of cancer may have

unique characteristics, risk factors, and treatment approaches.

The development of cancer is often influenced by a combination of
genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors. Certain inherited gene

mutations, exposure to carcinogens, unhealthy habits like tobacco
and alcohol use, poor diet, lack of physical activity, and exposure to
certain infections can increase the risk of developing cancer.

Early detection and diagnosis are crucial for effective cancer
management and treatment. Common methods for cancer diagnosis
include imaging tests, biopsies, and laboratory analyses of blood and
                           other bodily fluids.

Living with cancer can have a profound impact on individuals and
their loved ones. It can bring physical, emotional, and social
challenges, affecting overall well-being and quality of life.
