            Are you an Wins
                 Animal?

‘Selfless’ and ‘Unselfish’ are two words that have no meaning in today’s world. Well, not to
humans at least. It may as well be a made-up word, a mere politician’s word so that
people like me and you can have a purpose in life which overshadows our naked, raw,
and true nature of brutality. We are programmed by our learnings to compete with other
humans and suppress everything and anything that is non-human to accumulate power
and possessions. I have always believed every human being is capable of committing
atrocities under the right circumstances for motives that will always narrow down to
            one’s selfish nature.
At times, some so-called great people like God’s man, empowered women, innovators,
educators, leaders are all seen preaching humanity sitting in an air-conditioned
buildings built on forest land that was once home to several thousand species of flora
            and fauna.
Does that mean all humans are evil? The answer is: Probably Yes. There are humans who
are not selfish by nature but are trapped and have surrendered to the overpowered
human-centric society which considers every non-human thing as a possession that’s
available to be acquired. Animals are different. Animals are just humans in their purest
form. I know people will cite the predator-prey food chain. “Wolf killing a deer, lion killing a
zebra, etc.” – This really isn’t immoral or cruel. That’s the way animals live. While I wish the
world had not evolved into this predators and prey, it did.
Our evilness is not limited to animal exploitation but to our ecosystem as well. On
average, a ten-year old tree can absorb 48 pounds of Carbon dioxide annually, but only
if we allow it to do so. We are all fond of mountains and greenery, but deforestation is the Aatish Shukla
reason we have jobs. We live in a world where “sustainable development” is an important
topic for school kids to be taught but is the least of the concerns when it comes to policy
makers. In short Humans can be summarized in the lines below:
                     We shall cut the trees
                   to craft beautiful sun sheds,
                    We shall exploit the earth
to explore life on other planets
What about pets? What about man’s best friend – dogs or domestic cattle? Humans love
13 humans would pet a hen or a buck goat or a cow that cannot milk?
to pet certain animals, care for, and nurture them. But we don’t pet any other random or
needy animal. We all have defined rules. The dictionary defines ‘pet’ as - “a domestic or
tamed animal kept for companionship or pleasure.” Pleasure for the poor human who
must suffer boredom at times when he not busy exploiting its surroundings. How many
Sometimes, I feel I am inhumane in a world where eating an animal with table etiquette in
a fancy air-conditioned restaurant constructed on a forest land is considered humanity.
May be deep down in my heart I am still an animal who has not yet evolved into a modern
            human being.
