Focus on Large FamiliesThe work of CAEMBA is mainly addressed to large families, headed by single mothers. These are families in a very vulnerableand precarious situation.According to UNHCR, the refugee agency from the United Nations, extreme poverty is %u201cthe most serious state of poverty, aterm used when a person cannot meet the most basic needs: feed, drink drinking water, sleep indoors or have access to healthand education%u201d.The poverty line today is USD 1.90 per day. %u201cAn extremely poor person is the one who lives on less than USD 57 a month. Aninternational standard does not consider living standards by country%u201d, according to UNHCR.Holistic ApproachTo achieve an integral strategy, the families that have received the houses of CAEMBA need to find a sustainable way of living. The house is only one part of CAEMBA, because we want women to empower themselves and actively work in different fields. Therefore %u201cLa Casa de la Mujer%u201d (The Women's House) was developed. This community center is where 25 women (21 thatregularly attend) learn to develop skills and capacities on cut and confectionary, carpentry, jewelry, production of handicrafts, and other fields. In this way, they can sell the products in the same cities. This is how they can develop an independent andsustainable way of living, by earning money and paying for their expenses in a productive way. Also, as indicated above, CAEMBA built eight childcare centers and five community centers, focused on the most vulnerablepopulations of the affected areas. This was done just after the earthquake.I A M . M A G A Z I N E - C A E M B AI A M . M A G A Z I N E - 4 2Volunteers and community children
