I-irst Annual Conz'cntion 127

would have a common talk between the dealers and manufacturers.
Some of the dealers are so modest. Mr. Fitler. of Pittsburg. who
hardly ever talks any, is here, and I think we would appreciate it
if you would call on him.

                         M r. F i t l e r : I refer you to M r. Todd, my partner.
M r. Todd: I will have to refer you to Mr. Somers.
                         M r. C o o le r : As 1 understood, this was to be co-operation
all around. W e want to know what they mean by co-operation.
If there is a manufacturer here who feels different from that, he
had better go on the other side. I think the dealers should let us
know the position that they take.
I think we have declared ourselves pretty fairly and openly,
and there is nobody who wants to see perfect harmony all around
more than the manufacturer. A gentleman said yesterday in
open meeting that it is largely in the hands of the dealer. As
we travel over the road we have met with more cuts in prices
from the dealer than from the manufacturer, and unless that is
remedied there is going to be more trouble, right straight along.
Can’t we hear from the dealers?

                         M r. F i t l e r : W ill you have the resolution read which M r.
                    Puchta offered this afternoon ?
                         P r e s i d e n t S t r o n g : I was going to suggest to Mr. Cooper
that the manufacturers will hear from us a little later, hut there
is 110 objection to reading it.

S e cr etar y A nderson : “Resolved that this Convention of
the National Supply & Machinery Dealers' Association heartilv
endorses the action of the manufacturers who have shown their
                    disposition to co-operate with us.

“ P,c it further resolved that the members of this Association
support such manufacturers in every practicable manner to
encourage and establish this policy.” (Applause).
                         M r. M o v e r: On behalf of the manufacturers, speaking for
myself and the others, with me, I want to say we thank you.
On the other hand we have come into this meeting, and up to
the present time, outside of the request Mr. Fitler made for the
resolution, we have had no expression from the dealers or jobbers.
