64 The National Supply and Machinery D ealers’ Association

                            M r. B rion : I would like for him to explain re-sale prices.
P resident S tro n g: I would say that in our program for
tomorrow we have the consideration of the re-sale price. I sup
pose under that heading this sort of discussion will be in order,
and it will probably be very easy to suggest to the manufacturers
that they make their re-sale price in this way. I have no
doubt that they will be very glad to retain that rebate or premium.
It is only a question of whether some of our members will be
pleased to have them retain it for that length of time. I agree
with Mr. McIntosh decidedly in saying that it is the only way
in which you can hold it.

M r. B rion : I make the motion that we go on with the pro
gram until seven o’clock, and then we will be down to where we
would be at two o'clock tomorrow.
P resident S t ro n g: There has been no miscellaneous busi
                       ness.
                            M r. H o e r n e e : I would like to have emery wheels brought
                       up.

M r. Co ixo r d: I think no action has been taken on the
                       reports of the Committees.

P resident S trong : They are to be considered after mis
                       cellaneous business.
M r. B rion : I move that the matter which Mr. Hoernel
brought up be referred to the Secretary to get the information.
The motion being duly seconded was carried unanimously.

                            M r. M cI ntosh : I suppose under this “miscellaneous busi
ness” would come up the method of figuring profits. When we
talk to any manufacturers in regard to profits, we always talk on
the selling price. The statement was made by a very prominent
Chicago business man recently that the fact that so few mer
chants realize there is a difference, bankrupts more merchants
than any one thing, all the other causes included. It seems to me
that if the machinery dealers, in asking for that profit, find that
only twelve and a half per cent on the cost is all that they can
procure, that they should then make it read eleven and a quarter
per cent on the selling price. Let us get away from figuring on
