62 The National Supply and Machinery Dealers’ Association
M r. Dru ry: I have a letter here from H. H. Barton & Son
Company.
“Philadelphia, Pa., 9/15/05.
To Mr. J. H. Drury, Secretary & Treasurer,
The National Supply & Machinery Dealers Ass’n.,
C>9 Frankfort St., Cleveland, Ohio,
Dear S ir :—
Replying to your esteemed favor of the 13th inst. relative to
maintaining prices, beg to say for the past eighteen years we have
had but one price to the dealer; that is a certain discount to the
consumer, and a discount to the dealer. And where we have had
authentic information that our price has been cut, we have stopped
the sale of the goods to said dealer; thus protecting a dealer
who handles our goods, and having his money invested therein.
We remain, Yours very truly,
H. H. B arton & S on Co.,
H. H. Barton, Secretary.
(Applause.)

Gentlemen:—
Answering yours of September 13 per your Mr. Drury, we
have two scales of discounts from list sand paper prices. One is
for the consumer and the other for the wholesaler or dealer. In
having these two scales we believe that we accord with the ideas
of your members, and would be pleased to quote any of them who
will send an inquiry to this or any one of our branch offices.
Thanking you in advance for any favors which you may
show to us, and awaiting your further commands, we are,
