58 The National Supply and Machinery Dealers’ Association
M r. S cott : I would like to ask the Secretary if the members
have been notified of this re-sale price.

S ecretary : Everything-, except the Keystone Manufactur
ing- Company and the Massachusetts Saw Works.

Mr. S cott : What movement is there on foot to maintain
it ? Unless the Association takes it up immediately there will be
no benefit to the Association by these re-sale prices.
                            M r. D rury : I sent out copies of the re-sale prices. I
want to read a letter of Baeder, Adamson & Company. This is
                       one of the first letters:

                                                       “Philadelphia, September, 25th, 1905.
                       “Mr. J. H. Drury, Secretary-Treasurer,
The National Supply & Machinery Dealers Ass’n.,
                                        71 Frankfort Street, Cleveland, Ohio,
                       Dear S ir :—
                            Re-sale price of sandpapers.
Your favor of the thirteenth instant came duly to hand, but
reply has been held back that the matter might have the writer’s
                       attention.
We are heart and soul with your Association in this matter
of a re-sale price not only because we fancy the theory, but also
because in practice it is to our decided interest. I think it is very
generally known throughout the land that we have done, and are
doing, all that we can to maintain prices and to sell through the
Jobber and Dealer— in fact, I think we have more than nine-
tenths of the entire business in Sandpapers of the Jobbers and
Dealers. Very, very few of the members of your Association are
not our customers. Our largest trade, however, is with the Hard
ware people and our great trouble in this matter today is to keep
the two trades in the same line. I guess there are more Hardware
Dealers then there are Supply Dealers who try at times to make
a “leader’’ of sandpaper, yet there are some of your own members
who seem to do this at times.
We think the condition is better today than it was a few
years ago and we hope and believe it will continue to improve
and I can almost promise, sight unseen, to adopt any suggestion
                       your Association may advise.
                                                        Yours very truly,
                                                             B aeder, A damson & Co.’-
