60 The National Supply and Machinery Dealers’ Association
from list as the maximum discount to be allowed by the dealer
to the consumer.
In explanation, we wish to say that this rate was arrived at
and based upon the views and desires expressed in the greater
majority of replies received to our letter of inquiry on the subject
in November last. The replies also invariably endorsed the propo
sition, promising its support and maintenance.
While at the outset we felt that this was not a matter for our
concern, yet in deference to the desires of the Trade generally,
we have conceded the point, and shall now expect its support and
co-operation in faithfully maintaining this maximum discount, as
iiozv.’ established.
It will be understood, of course, that this is not to prevent the
dealer from making his customer any other price that his business
may entitle him to, but only that the 30% must not be exceeded.
We shall be glad to receive an acknowledgment of this from
you, and also to have your co-operation in pushing the sale of our
Ratchets.”
Yours truly,

Mr. D rury : I will say that the other line of ratchet drills
you will hear from in a week or two.
Gentlemen, there is one thing more I wish to call your atten
tion to before I forget it. That is the price on taps and dies. As
you know there is an association manufacturing taps and dies.
I had a letter from one of the manufacturers a few days ago in
which he stated that he felt that all our members were not main
taining the price, and I think it might be well to take some action
on this question in the form, perhaps, of a resolution, pledging
our members to maintain these prices.
I would like to read you the other letter from Baeder, Adam
son & Co.
