Dr. Michael Berenbaum’s lecture series. Antisemitism is rooted in religious
rivalry. Religious antisemitism gave rise to social and economic forms of
antisemitism, laws and customs that fortified the perception of the Jew
as the “other” and kept the Jews from integrating naturally into society,
keeping them on the margins of society. This segment of the course will
examine those efforts of the Nazis and will consider the implications of
this ethic for Judaism and Islam, not just Christianity. The series is brought

Chabad of Sarasota Annual Gala
Chabad of Sarasota is hosting its 26th annual gala honoring a staunch
supporter, Kirk Weisman. Due to Covid, the dinner will be held outdoors
at Selby Gardens (1534 Mound Street, Sarasota), masks will be worn when
not eating, and the option of smaller tables for singles, couples and families
will be the norm. Weisman is a founding member of Chabad of Sarasota,
is an active member of the Chevra Kadisha (Holy Burial Society) and has
been financially supportive since the inception of Chabad of Sarasota. For
those uneasy joining the gala due to Covid, there will be an option for
CHJ Education Series dinner takeout and to watch the gala via webcast. Entertainment for the
evening will be provided by entertainer extraordinaire, Shalom Sherman.

yellowed photograph depicting a little girl leads Christian and Jewish stu-
dents to search for the truth. They undertake a journey through the memory
of a painful past that is hard to forget, such as the memory of the raid on
the Jewish ghetto of Rome. The film discussion takes place from 3:00 to

Climate Change, Wildlife and Plastics
Join Brandeis National Committee on Zoom at 10:30 a.m. when Dr. Terry
Root, Professor Emerita at Stanford University, will discuss the science
behind wildlife and plastics, and how plants, animals and humans are
affected by climate change and plastics. She will also share what we can
do, collectively and individually, to mitigate this crisis. Dr. Root was a lead
author of the intergovernmental panel for Climate Change 4 Assessment

Crash Course in Jewish Greco-Roman History
Ancient Israel came under Greek rule when Alexander the Great defeated
the Persian Empire in the Fourth Century BCE. Later, the Maccabees re-
volted against the Greek King Antiochus when he prohibited Jewish rituals
and defiled the Temple. As Greek power waned, the Romans asserted con-
trol, destroying the Second Holy Temple in 70 CE and renaming the land
“Palestine” after the Philistines, to mock the Jews. Bar Kochba’s defeat in
136 CE marked the beginning of the 2,000-year exile. This class, presented
by the Al Katz Center, begins at 11:00 a.m. via Zoom. Cost: $10 per day or
