Cantor Azi Schwartz returns
by popular demand to the TUESD A Y , A UGUST 2 4
TUESDAY, AUGUST 24
Sarasota Opera House.
He will be joined by
Cantor Mira Davis “Every Book of the Jewish Bible: Leviticus”
for a spectacular
evening of song. Leviticus, the third book of the Torah, called Vayikra (“He called”), is
known as “instructions for the priests,” defining this book’s role in pre-
scribing the proper worship of the Divine One. How the People Israel were
to live as a holy nation is Divinely commanded in terms of priestly sacri-
fices, sacred worship, dietary laws, ritual purity, rites of Yom Kippur, Holy
Days and the Decalogue. Hundreds of the Torah’s 613 mitzvot are found
in Leviticus, where Jewish education often begins. This class, presented
by the Al Katz Center, begins at 11:00 a.m. via Zoom. Cost: $10 per day or
$50 for all classes this month. To RSVP and receive the Zoom link, please
call Beverly Newman at 941.313.9239.
