             General Authority of Sports fosters international partnerships in


             fencing to promote the sport

             UAE, June 30th, 2022- H.E. Sheikh Suhail Bin Butti Al Maktoum, Executive Director of the Sports Development Sector at the General Sports

             Authority and Secretary General of Higher Education Sports Federation; along with Sheikh Eng. Salim bin Sultan Al Qasimi, President of
             the UAE, Arab and Asian Fencing Federations; welcomed Abdelmoneim Elhamy El Husseiny, Vice President of the International Fencing

             Federation, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Fencing Federation (EFF). The visit was aimed at promoting collaboration
             between the two entities and exploring key challenges faced by the sport internationally, especially as Egypt continues to make signiêcant
             progress in the êeld of fencing with advanced world rankings in the under 20 categories. The meeting also discussed the best practices in

             the sport that are being followed at the Arab and international levels.
             Sheikh Suhail said: “The General Authority of Sports is keen to oéer the best possible assistance to all sports federations, including

             fencing, to promote the working mechanisms and boost the chances of our national teams to excel at regional as well as global levels. We
             appreciate the UAE Federation’s sincere eéorts, under the guidance of our wise leadership, to foster partnerships with its regional and
             global counterparts in order to achieve international accomplishments. Our commitment in this regard falls in line with the national

             Sports Sector Strategy 2032, which aims to enhance the international footprint of UAE sports.”
             “Egypt has achieved notable progress in fencing and is now regarded as one of the leading countries in the world for this sport. We look

             forward to constantly strengthening collaboration with various countries to exchange ideas and approaches on sports development,
             particularly with regard to talent acquisition and development. In addition to this, we intend to provide with the best options to

             strengthen international collaborations, thereby boosting the UAE’s openness in this regard.” H.E added.
             Meanwhile, Sheikh Al Qasimi, said: “We value the keenness of our wise leadership and the Authority in oéering and promoting local and

             international partnerships, aimed at encouraging the national teams to achieve international and national achievements. With more and
             more bright athletes emerging in the championships this season, fencing is becoming increasingly popular in the UAE. This indicates the
             fruitful eéorts of teams and federations to empower athletes with the necessary skills.”

             Abdelmoneim El Husseiny commended the UAE’s initiatives in developing and promoting sports in the region. He said: “The formulation
             of strategies is critical to the advancement of sports in the future and this was highlighted while announcing sports of priority. Apart from

             that, it is also necessary to study the challenges accompanying the implementation of the project, while also highlighting performance
             indexes to better understand what could be achieved in every stage of progress.”

             Recently, Egypt has achieved great accomplishments in fencing, the last of which was the victory in the men's junior team Epee at the
             2022 Junior and Cadet Fencing World Championships, in addition to achieving the 11th, 8th, and 6th places in the fencing world ranking.

             The meeting further highlighted key legislations and strategies in international fencing, as well as the expectations for the future of the
             sports in the near future. It further explored the best opportunities for the national talents to achieve Olympic success. The two sides also
             underlined the signiêcance of young talent's mental preparation and discussed the need to examine their physical skills in order to guide

             young talents toward suitable games in fencing. The UAE national team achieved four medals in the Gulf games recently hosted by
             Kuwait. Moreover, the team is currently preparing to participate in the Asian championship that is to be hosted by South Korea next

             month.
