Terra serves as the cornerstone of Expo City’s sustainability commitment, acting as the city’s flagship
sustainability experience and a living testament to the principles behind the GSTC certification. By
playing a crucial role in reinforcing Expo City’s status as a global leader in sustainable tourism, Terra
showcases the sector’s potential to foster environmental stewardship and community engagement,
integrating net-zero design, nature-based solutions, and hands-on education to inspire meaningful
change.

With a mission to prioritize the planet in everyone’s consciousness and stimulate climate action, Terra
houses the world’s first International Union for Conservation of Nature Centre for Species Survival
(CSS) dedicated to fungi, along with the regional office of Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots program—a
global initiative focused on environmental, animal welfare, and humanitarian outreach aimed at youth.

Furthermore, Terra is instrumental in Expo City Dubai’s progressive and people- and environment-
centered master plan, which ensures ease of navigation, circulation, and accessibility, complemented by
a network of green and blue spaces throughout the area. This master plan has earned WELL Community
pre-certification—the first urban center in the MENA region to reach this standard, emphasizing health
and wellbeing—as well as pre-certification at the Platinum level, the highest possible rating in the LEED
(Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Cities and Communities standard, which focuses on
economic development and environmental preservation.
