10/24/25, 4:24 PM Expo City Dubai Sets Global Standard for Sustainable Tourism with Prestigious GSTC Certification - Travel And Tour World

Terra plays a vital role in strengthening Expo City’s position as a global leader in sustainable
tourism. It showcases how the tourism sector can positively impact environmental
health, community engagement, and cultural preservation, aligning perfectly with Expo
        City’s mission of sustainable development.

Dubai’s Commitment to Global Sustainable Tourism Leadership
The UAE has long placed sustainability at the heart of its national tourism strategy. Dr.
Maria Alqassim, Assistant Undersecretary of the UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism,
reinforces this commitment, saying, “The UAE has placed sustainability at the core of its
tourism strategy, ensuring that growth goes hand in hand with the preservation of our
environment, climate, and natural resources.” This commitment is further demonstrated by
the UAE’s ongoing collaboration with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and
Development (OECD) and other international partners to integrate sustainability
standards into the country’s tourism policies.

Expo City Dubai exemplifies the UAE’s vision for a sustainable tourism future. Its GSTC
certification serves as a model for the region and the world, demonstrating
that responsible travel is not only possible but essential for the future of tourism. The city’s
sustainable tourism initiatives reflect a holistic approach to preserving natural resources
while creating economic opportunities for local communities and providing meaningful travel
        experiences for visitors.

The Sustainable Destinations Forum: A Key Milestone for Expo City Dubai
Expo City Dubai’s GSTC certification will be officially recognized at the Sustainable
Destinations Forum, taking place from October 28-29. This forum, co-hosted with Green
Destinations, an accredited certification organization, and in partnership with the UAE
Ministry of Economy and Tourism, will bring together leaders and stakeholders in
sustainable tourism. The forum provides a platform for cross-sector collaboration to discuss
innovative practices and strategies aimed at advancing the global sustainable tourism
        agenda.
The event will welcome key influencers and decision-makers, including regional leaders
from Jordan’s Tourism Board, Izmir Metropolitan City’s Tourism Directorate,
and Thailand’s Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (DASTA).
These experts will engage in discussions on sustainable business practices, data-driven
sustainability metrics, and the empowerment of local leadership to create more inclusive and
        resilient tourism experiences.

Expo City Dubai: A Hub for Sustainable Partnerships
Expo City Dubai’s efforts extend beyond certifications and awards. The city is a hub
for sustainability pioneers and is fostering meaningful partnerships that will drive the
industry forward. It continues to engage with like-minded organizations and initiatives that
align with its vision for a cleaner, greener future. The Sustainable Destinations Forum will
showcase these partnerships and highlight how cities, regions, and businesses can
collaborate to address the challenges posed by climate change and sustainability issues.
