leadership in the region. The future looks promising as well: the National Policy for Empowerment of Emirati Women 2031
pledges to create more leadership opportunities, and ensure women continue to be a driving force in the UAE’s growth.”

        Pivotal role in sustainability

Emirati women are playing a pivotal role in shaping a sustainable future in alignment with the UAE’s comprehensive vision
for gender equality and sustainable development. Empowered by progressive policies championed by the UAE leadership,
including the support of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Emirati women have emerged as key drivers in
climate governance, environmental stewardship, and sustainable innovation. Initiatives like WiSER (Women in
Sustainability, Environment and Renewable Energy), a Masdar-led global platform, highlight how Emirati women are
leading climate action and advocating for inclusive, gender-sensitive approaches to sustainability challenges, both
        regionally and globally.
The UAE’s commitment to sustainability is embedded within national strategies such as the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 and
the Abu Dhabi Climate Change Strategy, which focus on renewable energy expansion, decarbonization, and resilience.
Emirati women occupy influential roles within these frameworks—as ministers, diplomats like Ambassador Lana
Nusseibeh who advocates gender-responsive climate policy at the UN, and other environmental leaders who drives
impactful local climate initiatives. These leaders ensure that women’s perspectives shape policies addressing food security,
energy efficiency, and environmental conservation, reinforcing the UAE’s aim for a net-zero future.

Furthermore, the Gender Balance Council and the Ministry of Economy actively bolster women’s participation across
economic sectors, particularly entrepreneurship, promoting equal opportunities and nurturing women’s creativity in
sustainable development fields. Gender-inclusive programs and training enhance women’s capacity to contribute
meaningfully to innovation, green finance, and industries pivotal to the UAE’s “We the UAE 2031” vision. Notably, women
are increasingly visible in emerging sectors such as fintech, sustainable construction, and renewable energy projects,
driving economic diversification while advancing sustainability.
