Purpose of the Holiday
The celebration of the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is an important occasion
for Muslims worldwide. It is a time to remember the teachings, values, and messages of
the Prophet, such as kindness, justice, compassion, and tolerance. By declaring a public
holiday, the Dubai Government allows employees and citizens to engage fully in religious
and family activities.
DGHR highlighted that this holiday is also meant to foster a sense of unity and
togetherness among the community. Families, friends, and communities often come
together for prayer, reflection, and celebrations, strengthening bonds and promoting a
spirit of solidarity.

DGHR has also clarified that this public holiday does not apply to all government sectors.
Some departments and institutions operate under shift schedules or provide essential
public services that must continue without interruption. These include healthcare facilities,
emergency services, utilities, and other critical operations that ensure the smooth
functioning of society.
Employees working in these essential services will follow schedules determined by their
respective departments to maintain uninterrupted public service during the holiday. This
ensures that citizens and residents continue to receive vital services without disruption.
