UAE’s Ministry of Economy & Tourism Partners with Dubai Science Park

to Boost IP Protection

The UAE’s Ministry of Economy and Tourism has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dubai Science
Park, part of TECOM Group, to strengthen cooperation in intellectual property (IP) protection and patent registration. The
strategic partnership will provide legal and technical support to innovators and researchers, fostering innovation and
contributing to the UAE’s knowledge economy.

By the Numbers

The partnership comes as the UAE sees a significant surge in innovation and patent activity:

1,221 Patents: The number of patents recorded by the Ministry between January and July 2025, a substantial increase from
466 in the same period in 2024.
2,430 New Patent Applications: The number of new applications received in the same period, up from 1,996 in 2024.
500+ Companies: Dubai Science Park is home to a cohesive ecosystem of more than 500 customers, including global giants
like AstraZeneca and Pfizer.

Accelerating Homegrown Innovation

The partnership aims to accelerate patent registrations by providing expert guidance and simplified processes for innovators
operating within Dubai Science Park and other business districts in TECOM Group’s portfolio. The Ministry of Economy and
Tourism will provide technical and legal consultation, including expedited processing of patent applications, while both parties
will collaborate to support the commercialization of locally patented products.
