On Tuesday, Sharjah’s government confirmed the Eid Al Fitr break, aligning its public

sector holidays with Dubai’s.

Employees in Sharjah will also be off from Shawwal 1 to Shawwal 3, resuming duties

on Shawwal 4. However, if Eid falls on Sunday, March 30, employees will enjoy a five-
day break from Friday, March 28, to Tuesday, April 1. If the festival starts on Monday,

March 31, the holiday will extend to six days, ending on Wednesday, April 2.

Moon sighting in UAE

The final Eid Al Fitr dates depend on the Moon sighting, scheduled for March 29 in the

UAE. Islamic months last either 29 or 30 days, with Eid Al Fitr marking the beginning

of Shawwal. Sharjah’s government employees, who follow a four-day workweek with a

three-day weekend since January 2022, stand to benefit from a potentially longer

holiday.

Also this week, the UAE’s Federal Authority for Government Human Resources

confirmed Eid holidays for public sector employees across the country. Exemptions

apply to workers in essential public services, with shift schedules determined by their

respective departments.
