Dubai Announces Eid Al-Fitr Holidays For 1446 Hijri

Government employees to enjoy holiday from March 30 to April 1, with provisions for essential
services.
The Dubai Government Human Resources Department (DGHR) has officially announced the Eid al-
Fitr holidays for 1446 Hijri, a significant time of celebration for the Muslim community in the region.
According to the announcement made on March 20, 2025, all government entities, departments,
and institutions in Dubai will observe a holiday starting from the 1st of Shawwal 1446 AH, which
falls on March 30, 2025, continuing through to the 3rd of Shawwal 1446 AH, with official operations
resuming on the 4th of Shawwal 1446 AH.
In its circular, the DGHR noted, "Activities across all entities, departments, and institutions
affiliated with Dubai government will be paused from the 1st of Shawwal 1446 AH until the 3rd of
Shawwal 1446 AH.” This announcement brings joy to thousands of public sector employees who
eagerly await the holiday marking the end of Ramadan.
The holiday schedule also accounts for the observation of the lunar calendar. If Ramadan
completes 30 days, the 30th day (March 29, 2025) will also be included in the Eid holidays,
extending the break for government workers. It emphasizes that if the new crescent moon is
sighted, Eid al-Fitr will commence on Shawwal 1, encapsulating both joy and festivity in the
atmosphere of Dubai.

Recognizing the need to maintain essential services during the holiday, the DGHR stated that
certain staff members will not be included in this holiday schedule. "Staff members who work on a
shift basis or manage public facilities or deliver public services are excluded from this circular," the
DGHR specified. These essential employees are tasked with ensuring that services remain
uninterrupted during the busy festive season, making necessary adjustments to their work
schedules as their departments see fit.
As the holiday approaches, many in the city begin to prepare for the festivities. With Eid al-Fitr being
a time of giving and charity, families are expected to gather, share meals, and engage in various
community activities. Traditional practices of charity during this festive time receive considerable
emphasis, ensuring that the spirit of generosity resonates throughout the community.

to His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and Ruler of Abu
Dhabi; his brother, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and
Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai; as well as to their brothers, the members of the
Supreme Council and the Rulers of the Emirates, and to the people of the UAE and all its residents.
