The selection process for the beneficiary families will be based on impartial criteria, ensuring
that the aid reaches those most in need. The construction and funding of these homes will be
managed through the Sri Kurumba Educational and Charitable Trust, established by PNC
Menon and Sobha Menon. This Trust has been instrumental in driving philanthropy and
spearheading various CSR initiatives in Kerala.
Menon, who has dedicated 50% of his wealth towards advancing social welfare, believes in the
transformative power of philanthropy. He firmly believes that contributing to the community is not
an act of charity but a moral responsibility to uplift society.
In the early hours of July 30, 2024, multiple landslides occurred in the villages of Mundakkai,
Chooralmala, and Meppadi in the Wayanad district of Kerala, India. Heavy rains triggered the
collapse of hillsides, resulting in torrents of mud, water, and boulders cascading down onto the
area.
The landslides caused at least 308 deaths, over 200 injuries, and left more than 281 people
missing, making it one of the deadliest natural disasters in Kerala's history. These landslides are
among several extreme weather events that have occurred in India in recent years.
