company identity and ensuring consumer trust, which results in sustainability and growth of the
country’s business sector.”
H.E. Al Saleh further reaffirmed that the Ministry of Economy is committed to fostering a
supportive environment for innovation and IP protection, in line with the vision of the wise
leadership to position the UAE as one of the most competitive economies in the world. H.E. also
emphasised the importance of forging partnerships between the public and the private sector to
support national brands and motivate them to expand their footprints in regional and global
markets.
His Excellency Dr. Abdulrahman Hassan Al Muaini, Assistant Undersecretary for IP Rights
Sector at the Ministry of Economy, stated that the UAE’s progress in the IP field is a testament
to the wise leadership’s vision of establishing a diverse and sustainable knowledge-based economy.
He further highlighted the Ministry of Economy’s efforts in offering new opportunities to
innovative entrepreneurs to register their trademarks, further enhancing their local, regional and
global competitiveness.
During his speech, H.E. Dr. Al Muaini presented latest statistics on the registration of trademarks
across the country. He stated that the number of applications for registrations of national and
international brands in 2024 reach 33,852, which marks an exceptional 8.23 per cent increase as
compared to 2023. This reflects a substantial rise in the demand for trademark protection. On the
other hand, total registrations from the beginning of 2020 till May 2024 reached 135,932
applications.
A number of specialised panel discussions were held during the forum that highlighted the
mechanisms to empower SMEs by raising awareness on trademarks and strategies to create global
brands that originate from local markets, Furthermore, the forum also served as an ideal platform
to learn about legal consultancy services in intellectual property, which is known as the ‘IP Clinic’
offered by AIPPI UAE to SME owners. The ‘IP Clinic’ assists businesses and SME owners in
protecting their intellectual assets and expanding their global reach.
During the forum, participants highlighted the significance of registering and protecting
trademarks, which is basic aspect of a company’s identity, and its ability to expand and succeed in
global markets. Furthermore, they stressed the need to leverage the facilities offered by the UAE
government to enhance presence of Emirati brands in international markets. Also, the success of
