His Excellency bin Touq held a bilateral meeting with Daren Tang, Director General of WIPO,
during which the paths of joint cooperation between the two sides were reviewed, along with ways
to build upon them in the upcoming phase to enhance the intellectual property system in the UAE.
The importance of developing programmes to build institutional and technical capacities was
emphasised, as well as expanding the scope of cooperation in supporting digital transformation and
enabling member states to develop flexible and comprehensive intellectual property systems. It
was also highlighted that aligning legislative and regulatory frameworks with global standards is
essential to enhancing the protection of creators' rights and their economic utilisation.
Al Marri also held a productive meeting with Ms. Elisa Rodríguez Ortiz, Director of the Patent and
Trademark Office in Spain, to explore collaborative opportunities in industrial property, aligning
with their shared strategic visions. Both sides emphasized strengthening cooperation in policy
development and digital services, while also prioritizing the exchange of expertise to enhance
innovation-driven growth. Key discussions centered on capacity-building initiatives, including
specialized training programs and workforce development, as well as fostering private sector
engagement to raise awareness about intellectual property rights. This dialogue underscored the
mutual commitment to cultivating a robust innovation ecosystem through strategic partnerships
that benefit both nations.
H.E. Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri also met with officials from the Japan Patent Office (JPO), where
both sides reviewed the latest technologies in the fields of intellectual property rights protection,
particularly patents, utility models, and industrial designs, as well as leveraging modern digital
solutions to develop examination and registration systems, alongside training national personnel
and building their capabilities in handling advanced intellectual property tools.
During his meeting with representatives of the International Trademark Association (INTA), His
Excellency Bin Touq explored avenues to strengthen collaboration in trademark protection,
developing regulatory frameworks that safeguard the rights of registered trademarks, ensuring
compliance with international standards in rights enforcement, raising awareness among trademark
owners about the importance of protecting their assets, creating effective tools to combat
counterfeiting and commercial fraud, and strengthening the role of trademarks in supporting
companies' competitiveness, growth, and international expansion.
