In a heartfelt step towards strengthening family bonds and easing financial burdens, the Family Development Foundation (FDF)
and the Abu Dhabi Housing Authority (ADHA), in collaboration with the Department of Community Development – Abu Dhabi
(DCD), have introduced a valuable new service under the Barakatna initiative. This progressive service aims to empower
families and enhance the quality of life for senior citizens by offering primary caregivers the opportunity to extend the repayment
        period of their housing loans.

The move reflects the UAE leadership’s ongoing commitment to preserving Emirati family values, promoting social solidarity, and
ensuring that senior citizens live with dignity, care, and respect within the comfort of their homes and communities.

A Vision Rooted in Compassion and Emirati Traditions

The Barakatna initiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, stands as a
testament to the country’s unwavering dedication to its senior citizens. It carries within it the values of filial piety, respect for
elders, and intergenerational solidarity — qualities deeply embedded in Emirati culture.
Through this initiative, families are not just provided with financial relief but are also encouraged to maintain and uphold the time-
honoured traditions of caring for their elders personally, within their homes, rather than turning to institutional care options.
Reducing Financial Pressure While Enhancing Care

At the heart of this new service is a simple yet powerful goal: to ease the financial pressure on primary caregivers, so they can
focus more on the wellbeing and daily care of their senior family members.
The service allows eligible applicants to extend the repayment period of their active housing loans by up to five additional years.
This extension reduces monthly instalments, offering caregivers some much-needed breathing space in their financial planning.
For many families, housing loans represent one of the largest monthly expenses. With this service, caregivers can reduce their
financial commitments while continuing to deliver the quality care and attention their elderly parents deserve.
It’s a compassionate recognition of the practical challenges faced by caregivers, acknowledging the dual responsibility they
shoulder — managing family finances and providing physical and emotional support to ageing parents.
