6/25/25, 10:35 AM Abu Dhabi Launches Heartwarming Initiative to Support Families and Senior Citizens
Fostering Family Unity Through Thoughtful Support
His Excellency Abdulrahman Al Baloushi, Director of the Department of Strategic Planning and Institutional Development at the
Family Development Foundation, emphasised the collaborative nature of the initiative. According to him, the programme
embodies a collective effort among several strategic government entities aimed at improving the quality of life for senior citizens.
He described the initiative as a way of activating the family’s role within the broader social care system, highlighting the
importance of intergenerational support and shared responsibility in the wellbeing of elders.
“This initiative reflects a collaborative approach among key strategic partners to improve the quality of life for senior citizens and
enhance family cohesion,” he shared.
By easing financial burdens, the service frees caregivers to dedicate more time, care, and attention to their elderly parents — a
gesture that not only uplifts the individuals directly involved but also strengthens the very fabric of Emirati society.
Eligibility Conditions Designed to Serve Those Who Need It Most
To ensure the initiative reaches the families that need it most, certain eligibility criteria have been established. As explained by
Mohammed Abdulrahman Al Marzouqi, Acting Executive Director of Policy Development and Strategic Sector at the Abu Dhabi
Housing Authority, applicants must be the primary caregiver of a parent aged 60 or above.
Moreover, the applicant should have an active, fully repayable individual basic loan from ADHA — this includes loans granted for
purposes such as building, purchasing, or rebuilding a home.
These conditions are carefully tailored to target those families where financial obligations might otherwise compete with the
caregiving responsibilities, ensuring that the support system benefits the most deserving segments of society.
Simple, Efficient Application Process Through TAMM
Keeping in mind the busy schedules and daily demands on caregivers, the process for availing of this service has been made as
seamless and efficient as possible. Applications can be conveniently submitted through the TAMM platform, Abu Dhabi’s
comprehensive digital government services portal.
Applicants need to provide all required documentation as per the guidelines listed on the platform. Once submitted, the Family
Development Foundation verifies eligibility, and the Abu Dhabi Housing Authority processes the repayment extension within one
week.
This quick turnaround ensures that families aren’t kept waiting in uncertainty and can benefit from the relief in a timely manner.
A Pillar in the Government’s Wider Vision for Senior Citizens’ Wellbeing
This thoughtful initiative isn’t a standalone gesture but part of a broader vision by the Abu Dhabi Government to uplift senior
citizens’ wellbeing, housing stability, and overall quality of life. It falls in line with ongoing government efforts to develop high-
quality services tailored to the needs of the elderly and their families.
From accessible healthcare and wellness services to community-based initiatives promoting active ageing, the UAE leadership
continuously prioritises the dignity, security, and comfort of its older population.
By introducing practical services like housing loan repayment extensions, the government is sending a clear message — that no
senior citizen should ever feel like a burden, and no family should have to choose between financial obligations and providing
loving, attentive care.
A Culture of Gratitude and Shared Responsibility
Beyond the tangible benefits, initiatives like this reinforce a culture of gratitude and respect within families. It encourages
younger generations to honour the sacrifices and contributions of their elders, reaffirming the importance of family solidarity and
shared responsibility.
