This isn’t the first time Dubai has introduced flexible work schemes. You may remember that last
year, 15 government entities joined a similar campaign between August and September. The goal
was to support employee well-being during the blazing heat. And let’s be honest, no one’s
complaining about the chance to enjoy longer weekends. With most government workers already
enjoying a two-and-a-half-day weekend (yes, that dreamy Friday half-day is real), the added
flexibility is set to make summer 2025 more manageable.

Protecting Workers It the Sun
Of course, it’s not just office workers getting flexible work hours in Dubai this season. The UAE has
kicked off its annual midday break rule for outdoor labourers. From 15 June to 15 September,
working under direct sunlight is off-limits between 12:30 pm and 3 pm. The Ministry of Human
Resources and Emiratisation (Mohre) has already begun inspections at construction sites to make
sure the rules are followed.
Companies ignoring the rule could be penalised with fines starting at AED 5,000 per worker and can
go up to AED 50,000 for repeated violations. That’s enough to make any firm think twice before
cutting corners.
