               Second Runway Construction Underway
As part of the broader development, a Dh1-billion contract has already been awarded to build a
second runway at DWC. This infrastructure expansion is essential to accommodate the projected
increase in flights once the facility begins handling the traffic currently managed by Dubai
               International Airport.

The expansion project will ultimately feature five parallel runways, each separated by a minimum
distance of 800m and stretching to 4.5km in length. This configuration will enable the airport to
handle multiple simultaneous takeoffs and landings, addressing capacity constraints currently
               faced at DXB.

               The World’s Most Futuristic Airport

               DWC By the Numbers

                   • Total project cost: Dh128 billion (approximately $35 billion)

                   • Initial passenger capacity: 150 million annually (Phase 1)
                   • Ultimate passenger capacity: 260 million annually

                   • Number of runways: 5 parallel runways

                   • Number of gates: 400 contact gates across four concourses

                   • Total built-up area: 2.3 million square metres for the terminal complex

Earlier this week, authorities revealed design details of what is being called the “most futuristic
airport in the world.” The architectural vision includes a modern interpretation of traditional
Bedouin tents, creating a distinctive silhouette that will become an instant landmark in the Dubai
               skyline.
