Al Zaffin confirmed that talks with contractors are ongoing, emphasising that the team is “moving
decisively” to deliver the project on schedule. The first phase of the expansion is further divided into
two sub-phases:
1. First sub-phase: Construction of new terminal facilities, concourses, and satellite
terminals, along with expansion of existing facilities
2. Second sub-phase: Expansion and construction of runways, site grading, roads, and
tunnels
Timeline and Strategic Importance
While the full project will be completed in stages over the coming decades, the initial phase is
targeted for completion by 2032. Once operational, this first phase will already position Al Maktoum
International Airport as one of the world’s largest aviation hubs.
The strategic importance of this project extends beyond Dubai’s borders. With its central global
location allowing connections to major destinations across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas,
DWC is positioned to strengthen the UAE’s role as an international transportation nexus.
For the UAE’s workforce, this translates to long-term career opportunities in a stable and growing
sector. Those interested in exploring current openings can visit our JobXDubai job board, which

Dubai South: A Master-Planned City Takes Shape
The new airport forms the centrepiece of Dubai South, a massive urban development project
spanning 145 square kilometres. This “aerotropolis” concept integrates the airport with
commercial, residential, and logistics zones, creating a self-contained city built around the aviation
hub.
The development includes:
• Dubai Logistics City: A multi-modal logistics hub for air, sea, and road services
• Commercial City: Office and retail spaces for businesses seeking proximity to the airport
• Residential City: Housing developments ranging from affordable to luxury options
• Aviation City: Maintenance, repair, and overhaul facilities alongside aviation training
centres
• Golf City: Leisure and recreational facilities to serve residents and visitors
This integrated approach ensures that the airport doesn’t exist in isolation but serves as the
economic engine for an entire urban ecosystem.
Upon completion, Al Maktoum International Airport will be approximately five times the size of
Dubai International Airport, currently the largest airport in Dubai and one of the busiest in the world
for international passenger traffic.
