The computed tomography (CT) scanners produce high-resolution 3D images, allowing passengers
to keep electronics and liquids in their bags, according to a statement. This advancement helps to
reduce wait times and enhance efficiency at checkpoints. The initiative aims to boost security, but
significantly, it will also streamline passenger flow.
Advanced features for efficiency
The new systems are equipped with automated tray return, smart lane management, and object
recognition software. They are certified by international bodies, including the TSA and ECAC.
“Dubai continues to lead the world in aviation excellence by investing in the latest security
screening technologies,” remarked H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, president of the
Dubai Civil Aviation Authority and chairman of Dubai Airports. “This project strengthens passenger
safety, enhances the travel experience, and reinforces Dubai’s reputation as a global aviation hub.”
This contract supports Dubai’s broader initiative toward intelligent airport infrastructure as DXB
continues to handle record international traffic.
Eng. Khalifa Al Zaffin, executive chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation, stated that Smiths
Detection’s selection reflects Dubai’s commitment to integrating smart systems: “It is an investment
