Maricruz and her husband decided that they should take all their
most valued appliances and mattresses to their church because the
church was on high ground. Maricruz told me that she was shocked
when she realized that not only her house was being flooded but so
was the church. They lost all their appliances and mattresses and
other valuables. She told me afterwards that she did not know what
she would do without her OLR family who came to her rescue.
OLRM purchased (through the generosity of our supporters) new
appliances, mattresses, sheets and other essentials for the kitchen
to be able restart their lives. One of the most poignant moments
was when Griselda came to pick up her items. I had not seen her in
about four years. She introduced me to her husband (a municipal
policeman) and cried because she could not believe that her OLR
family was still there to help her out. A week later she came and
brought her two daughters with her so I would be able to meet
them. What a gift it is to be able to do something that is so
significant in the lives of others.
The generosity of supporters allowed Our Little Roses to ensure
much needed provisions for the staff and graduates of OLR who lost
all of their belongings. It was a blessing for each and for the
ministry as well to be able to help during this difficult time of back
to back hurricanes.

"After spending many years on the streets begging for money so I could eat, I was rescued by the Child
Welfare Agency and placed at the home. In a short time the girls and staff became my family. At Our Little
Roses I was given many opportunities. I was able to go to school which was something that could never
have happened with my parents.
One of the best tools I received was training in self-esteem. Through my education and professional
courses, I gained confidence in myself which I think would have been exceedingly difficult to do on my own.
I must thank Diana Frade who always told us that your true family is the one that prays for you, cares for you
and always stands by you even in those difficult moments in life when you need help the most. I thank God
for being placed in the wonderful Home at OLR." - Maricruz, Our Little Roses Alumna
