alongside many of whom you’ll likely never have heard (Mary Black,
Augusta Withers, Levina Teerlinc, Susanna Horenbout), mainly because,
well, sexism, but also often their surviving works are vanishingly rare, either
lost or mis-attributed since their creators’ deaths.
Teerlinc and Horenbout were in-demand miniaturists to the Tudor court, and
yet neither have anything like the name recognition of, say, Nicholas
Hilliard. Perhaps that’s about to change.
