Band of brothers and sisters: Sir Simon Rattle

leads a jubilant reunion concert in Liverpool

Over 200 miles away from Liverpudlians cheering their team’s dramatic extra-time winning
goal in the Carabao Cup at Wembley, there was a different, but no less extraordinary
celebration. A reunion of past and present Youth Orchestras brought together the current
Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and past members of Merseyside Youth Orchestra.
Among them was a certain percussionist former member who went on to become Sir Simon
Rattle.

Rescheduled due to Covid from the actual 70th anniversary of the MYO in 2021, the
concert was a miraculous coming together of no less than 195 past players (many of whom
became amateur musicians while some went on to professional careers) as well as former
