and the less so – Weber’s Overture to Der Freischütz – with a Sibelius violin concerto
completing the programme.
Charles Fox, chairman of trustees, said: “We’ve gradually seen audiences returning since
COVID, but nothing quite like the full houses of 2019.
“Welcoming an orchestra of the calibre of Royal Liverpool Philharmonic is a huge privilege
and we really hope that the classical music lovers of Cumbria and beyond will support the
event themselves and help us in spreading the word too.
“It would be a huge encouragement to see a full Westmorland Hall on that night for a great
programme and what promise to be great performances too.”
Concerts in the season so far have been described as dazzling and atmospheric, with a
particular joy in the magic of a full orchestra. There have been visits by BBC Philharmonic,
Royal Northern Sinfonia and Manchester Camerata as well as November and March
concerts by Lakeland Sinfonia.
Charles added: “We are so lucky to have such a range of great music performed across the
region, but it can only happen because of a lot of work by volunteers, amazing commitment
from musicians and, of course, the enthusiasm of our local audiences. I really hope that the
Royal Liverpool Philharmonic visit will be a tremendous celebration and one that will set the
tone for successful seasons to come.”
