Christi McWaters, a teacher at East Aiken School of the
Arts, is an inspiration in her 1st grade classroom and to
colleagues across our state. She treats her 1st graders as
mini mathematicians and they perform as problem-
solvers. On any given day in her classroom, you can find
creative problem-solvers at work with hands-on materials.
It is the norm to see her students building with various
materials in STEAM projects. She partners with local
university professors and students in collaborative video
pen pals utilizing Flip. She has coordinated her school's
inaugural “Math Rocks” Day for school-wide interactive
measurement activities and featuring a Math Magician
Christi McWaters with funding through a 2023 SCCTM classroom grant.
Ms. McWaters also leads her district’s Aiken County
Council of Teachers of Mathematics as an officer. She
has presented multiple sessions for the annual SCCTM
Conference. Ms. McWaters is a leader in her classroom.
