Grandmother’s Flower Garden, Martha Washington Variation 1930s. Purchased at an antique show in the South-
center Mall in 1985 or 1986. 66"x79" Fabric: Cotton prints, stripes, floral, pictorials, solids, white and ecru
muslins. Batting: Cotton. Backing: Pink loosely woven quilt backing. Edge: On two sides, the backing is
brought ½" onto the front and hand stitched. On two sides manufactured bias cut binding is hand stitched
to front and back. Piecing: By hand. The finished sides of the hexes and the diamonds are ½". Quilting:
Along the outer edge of each circle, about 4 stitches to the inch. Condition: One of the reds is unstable and
has bled onto the adjacent lights. Overall pink cast might be bleeding reds rather than originally pink fab-
ric. Otherwise clean and solid condition. Comment: One of the first acquisitions to The Susan Rae Sampson
